The Power of Trust
Geo-political events, technological advancements and workforce diversity are driving organizations worldwide to evolve at a rapid pace. This evolution is often very exciting, but for a traditional business this can be daunting.
How can leaders and business re-imagine themselves to be ready for the dynamic environment that we all operate in today?
I believe that any organization can achieve amazing outcomes in work and life by building a foundation of mutual respect and trust. Steven M.R. Covey said this well in his bestselling book, The SPEED of Trust: The One Thing that Changes Everything:
“Whether you’re on a sports team, in an office or a member of a family, if you can’t trust one another there’s going to be trouble.”
― Stephen M.R. Covey
Long gone are the days when leaders could achieve desirable outcomes and stay out of trouble by simply giving orders from the corner office. In this day and age, successful #leaders provide competitive advantage by building trust-based environments where all team members can count on the best from their respective team members. This often occurs today in networked non-hierarchical teams that share a common goal or belief.
Building trust and having a common organizational vision leads towards generating amazing outcomes.
In the right environment, networked groups within an organization become experts at coordinating their own activities with relatively minimal oversight. Hence, regardless of the project, the deadlines, or the pressure, teams will deliver amazing outcomes, not because they are told to do so, but because they want to achieve greatness!
Now, in this networked environment the role of the senior leader has definitely become more cumbersome. After all, he or she has to create a trust-based culture that facilitates the formulation of teams and allows these teams to strategize and oversee various aspects of the business. How can a senior leader build an environment such as this?
How do you create an environment of trust and enable teams across your organizations to achieve amazing outcomes? We would love to hear from you.
